Annual Report 2025-2026
Ø The Department had been sanctioned a sum of
₹5,86,600/- by the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL),
Ministry of Education, Government of India, New Delhi, for the promotion of
Urdu, Arabic, and Persian languages. Under this scheme, 200 non-Urdu knowing
students are trained to qualify for the Diploma in Urdu Language, 200
non-Arabic and less-Arabic knowing students are trained to obtain the
Certificate and Diploma in Arabic, and 100 non-Persian knowing students are
trained to qualify for the Certificate Course in Persian.
Ø As many as 80 students pursued
Diploma Courses in Computer Application, Business Accounting, and Multilingual
DTP, sponsored by the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL),
Ministry of Education, Government of India, in collaboration with the National
Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Ministry of
Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, New Delhi.
Ø During this academic year, 500
students registered for all the ten courses offered under the NCPUL &
NIELIT Programmes.

The Department of Urdu organized the Urdu Day
Celebration on Thursday, 24th July 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Seminar Hall of
the college. The programme was presided over by Alijanab S. Z. Abrar Ahmed
Sahib, Secretary and Correspondent of the College. The Chief Guest was Prof.
Khazi Habeeb Ahmed, Former Professor & Head,Department of Arabic, Persian
& Urdu, University of Madras, Chennai, and the Guest of Honour was Prof.
Khasim Ali Khan, Former Professor & Head, Department of Urdu, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar
Open University, Hyderabad. Following the formal function, a Mushaira (Poetic
Symposium) was conducted. The programme was compered by Mr. Anwar Hadi. Eminent
poets from different parts of the country participated in the Mushaira and
presented their poems and ghazals. The participating poets included Dr.
Mohammed Aminullah Ameen, Dr. Mohammed Nisar Ahmed Nisar, Dr. Vasiullah
Bakhtiari Wasi, Mr. Mahmood Shahid, Dr. Zaheer Danish, Dr. Abubakar Ibrahim
Faris, Mr. Sattar Faizi, Mr. Mahir Madrasi, and Mr. Siraj Shana. The event was
well received by the audience and added literary significance to the
celebration.

Ø The 19th Diploma
Certificate Distribution Function of the NCPUL–NIELIT Study Centre functioning
under the Department of Urdu, C. Abdul Hakeem College (Autonomous),
Melvisharam, was held on 6th
February 2025 in a grand manner. The programme was conducted under the
patronage of Alhaj S. Ziauddin Ahmed, General Secretary of the Melvisharam
Muslim Educational Society. The function was presided over by Mr. S. Z. Abrar
Ahmed, Secretary and Correspondent of the College. The programme commenced with
the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Hafiz
Mohammed Ameen Rasikh, followed by a
Naat recitation by T. V. Owais Ahmed, both students of the college. Dr. S.
Mohamed Yassir, Centre Coordinator, welcomed the gathering and introduced the
dignitaries. The Principal, Dr. S. Zaheer Ahmed, delivered the inaugural
address and emphasized that students should pursue additional certificate and
diploma courses along with their regular academic programmes in order to
enhance their employability and professional skills. On this occasion, Maulana
Abdul Azeem Umari Madani, Deputy Director of Jamia Darus Salam, Omerabad,
addressed the gathering and encouraged students to cultivate a strong interest
in acquiring knowledge. Referring to inspiring examples from history, he
highlighted the dedication and perseverance of earlier scholars. He remarked
that true knowledge instils humility, modesty, and a greater desire for
learning. He further emphasized that education should not be limited merely to
earning a livelihood but should aim at serving society and the nation. During
the function, the Chief Guest and other dignitaries were honoured with shawls
and mementoes. Prof. S. A. Sajid, Secretary and Correspondent of Islamiah Boys
Higher Secondary School, Melvisharam, presented a commemorative memento to the
Chief Guest. It is noteworthy that these diploma and certificate courses have
been successfully conducted at this centre for nearly two decades. This year,
488 candidates, including both men and women, received their Diplomas and
Certificates. Many students from nearby areas have benefited from these courses
and are presently employed in various Gulf countries and reputed companies.
During the certificate distribution ceremony, Abdul Raoowf Umari, Mohammed
Saifi Umari, H. Ehtisham-ul-Haq, C. Faizan Ahmed, and Abdul Shakoor announced
the names of the students and assisted in the distribution of certificates. The
Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Abubakar Ibrahim Umari. The programme
concluded with the National Anthem. Media coverage of the event was provided by
Mr. Saravanan, and the programme was attended by faculty members, students, and
prominent citizens of the town.

The Departments of Urdu, Tamil, and
English jointly organized the Teachers’ Day Celebration – 2025 on 4th
September 2025. The programme was presided over by Dr. S. Zaheer Ahmed,
Principal. The Special Lecture was delivered by Prof. U. Peer, Retired
Principal, C. Abdul Hakeem College (Autonomous) , Melvisharam, and Prof. D. M. Abdul Kadar, Former Head, Department
of Tamil, Islamiah College (Autonomous), Vaniyambadi. The programme was
convened by Dr. S. Mohamed Yassir, coordinated by Dr. M. Thamim Mansoor, Head,
Department of Tamil, and organized by Mr. K. Abdul Munaf, Head, Department of
English, along with the faculty members of the Language Departments.

The Department of Urdu, NCPUL/NIELIT
Study Centre, C. Abdul Hakeem College (Autonomous), Melvisharam, in
collaboration with the Department of Urdu, Government College for Men, Kadapa,
jointly organized a webinar on “Maulana Azad and Urdu Literature” on 11th
November 2025 to commemorate National Education Day. The programme was presided
over by Dr. S. Zaheer Ahmed, Principal. The Special Lecture was delivered by
Prof. Shahzad Anjum, Professor, Department of Urdu and Director, Premchand
Archives & Literary Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He highlighted
the literary contributions of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and his role in the
development of Urdu language and literature. The programme was organized under
the guidance of Dr. S. Mohamed Yassir and Dr. Syed Vasiulla Bakthiyari, Head,
Department of Urdu, Government College for Men, Kadapa. More than 350 participants
attended the webinar.

Ø The Departments of Urdu, Tamil, and
English organized a Special Lecture on “Importance of Mother Tongue” on 23rd
February 2026 in the Seminar Hall to commemorate International Mother Language
Day. The programme commenced with Qirath by Hafiz Mohamed Saad (II B.Com.). Dr.
S. Mohamed Yassir delivered the Welcome Address and introduced the dignitaries.
The programme was presided over by Dr. S. Zaheer Ahmed, Principal, who
emphasized the importance of preserving mother tongues for cultural identity
and int ellectual
development. The
chief guests included Mr. T. Shabeer
Ahmed, Professor & Head, Department of English, Jamia Al-Baqiyathus
Salihath, Vellore; Mr. A. Vedayyah, Founder, Vivekanandha Matriculation Higher
Secondary School, Nembli; and Dr. S. A. Sajid, Dean. They highlighted the
significance of mother tongue education in shaping personality and
strengthening linguistic diversity. The dignitaries were honored with
mementoes. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. M. Thamim Mansoor, and the
programme was compered by Mr. K. Abdul Munaf.
Ø The Departments of Urdu, Tamil, and
English, in collaboration with IQAC, organized a Special Lecture on “Gender
Equity” on 6th March 2026 in connection with International Women’s
Day. The programme commenced with Qirath by Mr. Akram (I BCA). The Welcome
Address was delivered by Dr. Mohammed Waseem, IQAC Coordinator and Head,
Department of Commerce.
The Chief Guest, Mrs. M. Sathya,
M.Sc., M.Ed., Principal, MMES Public School, Melvisharam, was introduced by Dr.
S. Mohamed Yassir. The dignitaries were honored with shawls and mementoes. In
his Presidential Address, Dr. S. Zaheer Ahmed, Principal, emphasized the
importance of education in empowering women and building a gender-equitable
society. The Chief Guest delivered an inspiring lecture on women’s empowerment
and gender equality. The programme was compered by Mr. J. Harshath Basha,
Assistant Professor of Tamil, and successfully organized with the efforts of
Mr. K. Abdul Munaf, Head, Department of English. The Vote of Thanks was
proposed by Mr. P. Ashraf Ali Khan, Assistant Professor of English.
Ø Dr. S. Mohamed Yassir successfully
completed 25 years of service, having joined the college on 20th June
2000.
Ø Dr. S. Mohamed Yassir submitted his
CAS proposal for promotion to Associate Professor (Level 13A). The Screening
Committee was conducted under the Chairmanship of Mr. S. Z. Abrar Ahmed,
Secretary and Correspondent, with Dr. S. Zaheer Ahmed, Principal, Dr. M. Thamim
Mansoor, Convener, and subject experts Prof. Mohd. Nisar Ahmed and Prof. M.
Ameenullah from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati.
Ø Dr. S. Mohamed Yassir published a
research paper on “Masnavi Zahanat aur Urdu Adab” in the book Digital Media and
Urdu Language & Literature, published by the Urdu Academy, Delhi, with
ISBN.
Ø He also published a research paper
on “Ma'il Khairabadi and Islamic Literature” in the peer-reviewed journal
Quarterly Irtiash with ISSN.
Ø The Department recommended the
Muhatrama Ammerunnissa Sahiba Cash Prize Endowment, constituted by Janab A.
Mohammed Asharaf Sahib, Former Secretary, The New College, Chennai, to Mr. T.
Mohammed Salman (III B.Sc. Physics) and Mr. Adil K (II B.Com. C.A.).
Ø The Department also recommended the
Prof. Khazi Habeeb Ahmed Cash Prize Endowment, created by Prof. K. Habeeb
Ahmed, Former Professor & Head, Department of Arabic, Persian & Urdu,
University of Madras, to Mr. U. Muhammed Asjed U (II B.Com.).
Ø Dr. S. Mohamed Yassir attended the
One Week Online NEP Orientation and Sensitization Programme from 20th
to 28th February, 2026, conducted by Osmania University, Hyderabad.

He delivered a Special Lecture at
the Department of Urdu, Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women
[Autonomous], Chennai, on 18th September, 2025.
Ø He attended the Meeting of the Board
of Studies in Urdu at St. Joseph’s College of Arts and Science for Women
(Autonomous), Hosur, on 9th October, 2025.

He also attended the Two-Day
Workshop for Coordinators from 12th to 13th January,
2026, conducted by the Centre for Distance and Online Education, Maulana Azad
National Urdu University, Hyderabad.

He presented a paper in the National
Seminar at the Department of Urdu & Arabic, Islamiah College [Autonomous],
Vaniyambadi, on 17th February, 2026.
Ø
He presented a paper in the One-Day
Workshop on “Karnatak Mein Urdu Afsana: Samt Aur Raftar”, conducted by the
Karnataka Urdu Academy, Bengaluru, held at Shimoga Kuvempu University Arts
College on 14th February, 2026.
Ø He attended a Workshop on Outcome
Based Education (OBE) organized by Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore, under the
TANSHE proposal, held at Voorhees College, Vellore, on 28th January,
2026.

Dr. S. Mohamed Yassir was invited as
a Resource Person on 23rd December, 2025, at M.K. Jain College for
Women, Vaniyambadi.
Ø He attended the Meeting of the Board
of Studies in Urdu at Bharathidasan University, Trichy, on 24th
March, 2026.
Ø He also participated in the
Inter-Collegiate Debate Competition along with the students on 23rd September,
2025, at the Department of Urdu, Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women
[Autonomous], Chennai.
Ø
Under the research supervision of
Dr. S. Mohamed Yassir, the Ph.D. Viva Voce Examinations of his two research
scholars, Mrs. Rakiya N azneen and Mr. Sardar Khaja Mohiudeen, were successfully conducted.
Another research scholar, Mr. R. Mohammed Sameeullah, has submitted his Ph.D.
synopsis.

Ø
Dr. S. Mohamed Yassir was invited by
Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women (Autonomous), Chennai, to serve
as an External Academic Audit Member for the Academic Audit of the Department
of Urdu. The Academic Audit was held on 20th January 2026. His
participation and expert suggestions helped in reviewing the department’s
progress and strengthening quality sustenance in accordance with various
academic performance indicators.
Ø Students of the Department actively
participated in Inter-Collegiate Literary Competitions conducted by Islamiah
College (Autonomous), Vaniyambadi, and The New College (Autonomous), Chennai,
and received appreciation for their performances.
Ø
Mr. T. Mohammed Salman (III B.Sc.
Physics) and Mr. S. Muhammed Umaise Rasiq (III BCA) secured Second Prize, while
Mr. V. Mohammed Viqar (I B. Sc. Computer Science) and Mr. A. Mohammed Yaseen (I
BCA) secured Third Prize in the State Level Inter-Collegiate Debate Competition
organized by the Department of Urdu, Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for
Women (Autonomous), Chennai.
Ø The Department also conducted
competitions such as Qirath, Naat, Oratory, Essay Writing, and Bait-Bazi for
the students of both Day College and Evening College to mark the significance
of International Mother Language Day.
Ø The Department sincerely thanks the
Managing Committee, particularly Aljanab Alhaj S. Z. Abrar Ahmed Saheb,
Secretary & Correspondent, for his constant encouragement and wholehearted
support in the successful functioning of the Department.
